Deaf, retired artilleryman.  One of Morin's bodyguards.

Short-sighted rifleman.  One of Morin's bodyguards.

 

Alphonse

Street Urchin in the process of being trained as a valet.

 

Josephine

Actress in the Compagnie du Havre, Morin's mistress.

 

Francois Puard

Formerly the Duc D'Yzere's greffier, now a consultant and part-time replacement when Morin is out of town.

 

Jean-Jacques

A former soldier in his mid-fifties who impressed Morin with the baseness and honesty of his desires.  A lazy, drunken pervert who is a good shot with a musket and who has some wits about him.

 

Elam

Nephew of Mordecai.  Notable for his non-Jewish appearance.

A bald Spaniard with filthy teeth, a procurer of cadavers.
