Background

To find out more about the period in general, a good place to start is at the Wikipedia page relating to Early Modern France.

To find out more about the French Wars of Religion, the relevant Wikipedia page is also quite well put together.

Another nice background page is that about Huguenots though at the time the term was considered to be insulting.  On a related note the entry on the House of Guise (the leaders of the extremist Catholic faction) is pretty good though the entry on the House of Bourbon (the leaders of the Protestant faction) is a little over-detailed for the purposes of this game.

The game's set in Le Havre so the page for that makes for good background too.  Unfortunately though the town was essentially levelled by allied bombing during the second world war so the modern Le Havre bears little relation to the one of the period.
